Following the foot prints of western countries Indian subcontinent has also showed great interest in various kinds of adventure sports. Trekking mountaineering hiking biking para gliding hang gliding skiing heliskiing skating snow boarding white water rafting canoeing kayaking angling etc are the new talk of the town.

Each and every nook and corner of India has become a great hub for all these adventure sports. Even the alluring land of North east India has immense potential for the growth of various adventure sports in the region. All these states have challenging trekking routes and are blessed with distinct flora and fauna. Except Arunachal Pradesh all other aforementioned states have an advantage of not being snowwrapped. So trekking through these hilly and mountainous terrains will help you to experience the wilderness of the valley.

Another adventure sports for which North east India is praised are mountaineering and rock climbing. Northeastern states like Sikkim Assam and Mizoram has some excellent zones for mountain climbing.

Sikkim is the epitome of some of the tallest mountain peaks of the world like Kanchenjunga. It is the third tallest peak in the world situated at a height of 8585 m 28169 ft above sea level. Some other mountain peaks of Sikkim are Kabru Kirat Chulior Tent Peak 7365 m and Sinolchu 6887 m. Even Assam’s North Cachar Hills and Karbi Hills are famous as rock climbing spot. Also the Elephant rock of Morigaon district is popular for rock climbing. Mizoram too has 21 peaks varying from 1179 m to 2157 m which are also an excellent option for rock climbing.

White water rafting is another adventure sport for which North eastern part of India is renowned in the entire world. Brahmaputra in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam offers an ample of opportunities for white water rafting. Even the untamed Teesta and Rangit rivers of Sikkim challenges the rafters to conquer them. They are graded as four according to the international scale. These are the ultimate destination for the both novice and expert rafters. You can even try your hand in some other adventure sports in the region like jungle safaris in the wildlife sanctuaries of the valley such as Kaziranga national park Manas national park and Namdhapa National park angling in the rivers of Arunachal Pradesh para sailing para gliding or hang gliding at Halflong in Assam.
