This country contains a range of different delights for tourists such as top European city centers charming villages lake and mountain regions and even cruises along the river Rhine. However a great part of Germany’s present involves delving into its past and a perfect way in which to do just that is to visit one or many of Germany’s castles.
Castle Road
The route of the Castle Road runs from Mannheim to Prague and hosts over 70 castles. Tourists may take a step back into history and travel along this road that is packed with castles and fascinating stories and legends. A visit to one or several of these attractive sites is a must for the traveler. Visitors will discover that some of the castles have been partly transformed into restaurants or hotels. Some of these sites even host events such as weddings. A trip to such a castle provides a great way to feel the special ambience of the past. Those who choose to arrange to stay the night in a castle will certainly come across a unique experience.
A castle that is sure to capture every visitor’s heart is the castle at Neuschwanstein. This castle was opened to the public in 1886 and appears to be the perfect type of castle for fairy tales. It is interesting to note that this particular castle was the model for the castle in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty in Disney Land. However the Neuschwanstein castle is real and creates a dramatic and impressive sight at all times of the year.
The castle ruins at Heidelberg present the town’s top attraction. The earliest parts of this structure are believed to have been built in AD 1214. Only part of this castle has been restored and it sits surrounded by trees overlooking the town. Heidelberg is also an excellent location in which to find a place to stay offering easy access to the Castle Road.
The Mannheim Castle was built in the mid 18th century and is a large impressive structure in the center of the city. World War II brought about destruction for parts of the castle. However restoration was completed in 1968 and today part of this castle houses the University of Mannheim. Hotels can be found in Mannheim itself in close proximity to the Mannheim castle.
These are just a few of the castles and palaces that can be found in Germany. It is incredible to note that over 25000 castles and palaces may be discovered all over the country. Accommodation can be arranged close by to many of the beautiful castles offering stunning views. In addition in some cases package deals are available which include a room and tickets to enter the castle.

Choosing a holiday is often tricky. Most travellers from the northern half of Europe prefer to visit destinations where the weather is a good deal more reliable than at home. With lots of sunshine and no rain if at all possible.
Which makes the Canarian island of Lanzarote an almost perfect hotspot. As its location off the coast of north Africa means it is further south than any other European resort. And its low lying geography makes rainfall far less likely even during the winter months.
The locals have long been aware of their great fortune when it comes to the climate. For more than forty years Lanzarote has marketed itself as a winter sun destination although it obviously does just as well during the summer months. And the range of accommodation means that there aren’t just apartments and hotels to stay in, but a good range of villas in Lanzarote as well.
The most recent development on the island saw the transformation of a small fishing village at the most southerly point into a new tourist destination. This has been so successful that many people now take their holidays in Playa Blanca rather than the older resort of Puerto del Carmen.
And many of these visitors opt to stay in one of the many villas in Playa Blanca, as the vast majority are recently constructed with modern, airy interiors and private pool and sunbathing areas. Ideal for making the most of the microclimate the town enjoys.
Playa Blanca hugs the southern coastline and has three beaches within the town itself. Whilst at its eastern most edge a further six beaches, collectively known as the Playas de Papagayo, can be found. Often praised as some of the best beaches in the whole archipelago, they are well worth a visit.
But as the beaches are part of a protected area, reaching them is usually best done with a hire car. As this allows visitors to take everything they need for the day, such as a picnic lunch and sunshade, without having to carry it all by hand. And as car hire in Lanzarote is extremely affordable, this is very cost effective way of getting out and exploring the rest of the island, including these beaches.
Outside the resort there is plenty to see and do, including a visit to one of the seven centres of art and culture which have become the mainstay of Lanzarote’s tourist attractions. And rightly so, as each was designed by local born artist and architect César Manrique, whose creativity has shaped a unique range of sights that are well worth seeing.
